Public Works to Improve Route Efficiency

For several months the Public Works Department of the City of Macon has been hard at work to improve the efficiency and service of its solid waste collection routes. In coordination with the Regional Commission, the City of Macon has used route optimization software to reconfigure the routes to save on time and gasoline consumption. Now all the routes will service equal numbers of homes, based on industry best practices and standards.

Drug Bust Press Conference, April 23, 2010

On Wednesday evening, April 21, 2010 the Macon Police Department conducted a traffic stop on I-16 East. 33 year-old Kendrick Mincey of Ellenwood, Georgia was stopped for erratic driving. Four bricks of powder cocaine, totaling nearly 10 pounds, were found inside the vehicle.

Mr. Mincey was arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine and failure to maintain lane. He is in the Bibb County Jail. The estimated street value of the cocaine found is $452,000. This is one of the largest drug busts in Macon's history.

Belgium Fire Observers Visit Macon Bibb Fire Department(Photo Gallery)

A group of ten Belgium Firefighters visited the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department for one week during the Cherry Blossom Festival 2010.The group is part of the Belgium Fire Observers Organization members that visit major fire departments throughout the United States several times each year.The non-profit organization is headed up by Chief Paul Vanlook and offers any Firefighter in Belgium the opportunity to make one of the sponsored trips each year on a lottery type selection basis.Each member must pay their own way however, the advantage of group rates always helps defray the costs associated with the trips.

Firefighters from the Macon Bibb Fire Department participated in this years "Teen Driver Rodeo 2010" sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Macon. The day long event involved public safety officers from the Macon Bibb Fire Department,Macon Police Department,Bibb County Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol,Medical Center Ambulance Service,and Emory Hospital's flight team of advanced medical transport personnel.The theme of the event was to educate teen drivers about the dangers of reckless driving or driving while under the influence of alcohol or drug use. Another important focus challenged teen drivers to drive safely and obey traffic rules and regulations at all times epically when other peers are riding along as passengers.Our Fire Department's role was to demonstrate the stark reality that making poor judgments while driving can have disastrous results.
