The 2010 class of Leadership Macon was hosted by the Macon-Bibb Fire Department for a "Lunch and Learn" forum at our Headquarters Station on Oglethorpe Street November 4, 2010. The class is winding up their year long commitment to this civic educational forum process, where each student participates in monthly seminars, that deal specifically with community issues. The seminar format provides an opportunity for hard-line questions and answers. It also sets an appropriate stage for digging deeply into topics that are perhaps only lightly addressed during formal, but routine, newscasts or other public forums. This months agenda focused on Local Government specifically Public Safety agencies which included the Macon Police Department, the Bibb-County Sheriff's Office and the Macon Bibb-County Fire Department.

Macon Police Department's Line Inspection

On Tuesday, October 19, 2010 the Macon Police Department's 4th Precinct conducted it's bi-annual Line Inspection at the Virginia College parking lot, formerly the old K-Mart building on Eisenhower Parkway.

Twice a year (spring and fall), each of MPD's four precincts undergoes a line inspection to physically inspect each officer, his or her uniform and equipment, and the vehicle to which he or she is assigned. Additionally, each officer's weapon is inspected to ensure that it is in proper working order.

The formal inspection is a means of accounting for departmental equipment and ensures compliance with departmental policies and standards.

At the inspection, the officers look forward to brief, personal exchanges with members of the MPD Command Staff, including Police Chief Mike Burns, Deputy Chief Mike Carswell, Captain Mike Schlageter (who oversees Internal Affairs), Area II Major Robert Grabowski, and also, Precinct 4 Captain Joe White.
