Bicycle Lanes Connect Mercer to Downtown Macon

Bike lanes are being rolled out in Macon this week connecting cyclists safely between downtown and Mercer Village. In a collaboration between the City of Macon and Mercer University through the College Hill Alliance, the bike lanes are a pilot to promote alternative forms of transportation. This public/private partnership provides outside funding with in kind services of engineering and construction to complete this project.

It's an awe-inspiring sight. A line of Macon Police Department cars and other
support vehicles stretching across a parking lot as a precinct undergoes a "line inspection".

What's a line inspection?

The Macon Police Department undergoes a "line inspection" twice a year - in
the spring and in the fall to physically inspect each individual officer, his
or her uniform, equipment, and the vehicle to which he or she is assigned.

Each officer's weapon is inspected to insure that it is in proper working
order. The inspection also is a means of accounting for departmental
equipment. These bi-annual inspections insure compliance with departmental
policies and standards.

Macon Bibb Firefighters Hold Competition Event

Firefighters converged at the Georgia State Fair to participate in the annual Firefighter's Competition Event where teams of firefighters compete in timed scenarios that focus on job related skills.Each timed event requires a team of Firefighters to perform specific tasks designed to focus on teamwork and actual skills used in their day to day activities as firefighters,with a bit of fun thrown into the mix.The events were Individual Rapid Dress,Team Rapid Dress,Busted Hose,Double Hose line Advance,Hose Relay and Bucket Brigade.Teams were made up of Firefighters from their respective Battalion and shift. Each Battalion represents a region of the City or County located within a specified Fire District and the Fire stations and personnel that are assigned there.Our department has three designated Battalions and two shifts therefore, there are six teams that can compete against one another.
