Macon-Bibb County Consolidation Update (March 4)

In an effort to make sure you remain informed of decisions made by the Macon-Bibb County Consolidation Transition Task Force and Committees, as well as let you know of upcoming meetings, the City of Macon and Bibb County are working with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission (MGRC) to provide you with ongoing updates and information.

Macon-Bibb Consolidation Receives Grant to Promote Participation, Transparency

In an effort to engage more residents in shaping the region’s future, Knight Foundation today announced it will provide funding to make the consolidation of Macon-Bibb County more open and transparent.

“The $62,200 grant will help forward the transition task force’s goal of creating a new, consolidated Macon-Bibb County focused on serving the public, rather than merely merging the two existing governments,” said Chris Floore, City of Macon Director of Public Affairs.

With the Knight Foundation grant, the Task Force will be able to:

• Purchase new equipment to ensure all meetings are streamed, then archived online;
• Facilitate forums for people to ask questions, get answers, and raise concerns and for the task force to learn what is most important to them;
• Distribute a survey as a way to learn what is important to people and how they would like to receive information about the process; and
• Develop a dedicated website for consolidation information.

Macon-Bibb Consolidation Update - 2.18.13

In the past two weeks, the Human Resources, Facilities, Laws, and Finance Committees met at the Middle Georgia Regional Commission. You can view these meetings in their entirety by going to www.maconbibb.tv, and you can get updates throughout the week by following the process on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MaconBibbCounty) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/MaconBibb).

On July 31, 2012, the voters of Macon and Bibb County approved House Bill 1171, which would create a consolidated Macon-Bibb County government that would begin in January 2014 and replace the current City of Macon, Bibb County, and Payne City. Between September 2012 and January 2014, a 15-member Transition Task Force is holding public meetings to take a deliberate and in-depth look at how government is currently operated, identify best practices from across the state and country, and build a new government that is truly focused on moving our community forward.
