Macon Hosts Community Service Fair
The City of Macon, MLK Commission, Volunteer Macon, United Way of Central Georgia, Macon Housing Authority, Unity-N-Community, The Macedonia Church, and Awakening Fires are holding a community service fair for local organizations and the public called Macon A Difference: Celebrating and Connecting those that Care and those that Need Care.
The two-day event will be held February 1 and 2 at the Macon Centreplex, and organizations will be offered workshops, networking opportunities, and a recognition lunch, as well as an opportunity to showcase their work to the general public.
“This is a chance for our community organizations to come together, learn from each other, share knowledge and expertise, find new ways to partners, raise awareness with the public of the importance of volunteering, and increase the number of people volunteering,” says Keith Moffett with the City of Macon.

On Friday, workshops will be hosted for nonprofit and community organizations about Board Member relations, Grants Management, Grants Accountability, Volunteers and volunteering in the present age, how to be a 501(c)3, Interns, Americorps*VISTA, and National Service. There will be facilitated discussions in the afternoon about how future collaboration and potential resource sharing. The day will close with an ecumenical service featuring a choir and speakers.
On Saturday, the public is invited to attend and learn more about how they can improve their neighborhoods and communities by getting involved with local organizations. People will learn about volunteer opportunities, re-entry opportunities, career services, and youth services.
“We’re inviting large, small, formal, and informal community based groups to join us and kick off a year of service in Macon-Bibb,” says Gigi Rolfes, Executive Director for Volunteer Macon. “We want to bring together as many groups as possible that have a community focus and use volunteers.”
