City Employment

The City of Macon's Human Resources Department is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, provision of career development opportunities, employee assistance program, and management of the City's affirmative action program.

The City of Macon employs approximately 1,142 individuals in fifteen (15) departments. City employees enjoy rewarding careers in the areas of public safety, leisure services, technical and management fields and community development. All City of Macon job openings are posted at the Human Resources Department, located at City Hall Annex 682 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia. The Human Resources Department is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (478) 751-2720. Jobs are usually open for seven (7) days with the exception of certain managerial jobs and hard to fill technical positions.

Employment applications are accepted only when a job is open and has been posted at the Human Resources Department. Job announcements and application forms include specific instructions for completing and filing an application. An applicant must complete an official City of Macon application form for each position in order to be considered for a job vacancy. An applicant may provide a résumé as an attachment to the application but a résumé cannot be accepted in lieu of an application.

Minimum qualifications may include education, training, experience, license or certification, minimum age requirements etc. The Department Head, at his/her discretion, may choose to interview any or all applications before making the final decision on hiring.

The Department will not consider incomplete applications including those that do not have references listed.
