  The mission of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is to promote understanding and acceptance of nonviolence and human equality as a way of building community among all citizens of the City of Macon and Bibb County by commemorating the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  To Promote public interest in the general improvement of the environment of the city and county; initiate, plan, direct and coordinate programs for litter control for the city and county; Encourage the placing, planting and preservation of trees, flowers, plants, shrubbery and other object or ornamentation in the city and county; Advise and recommend plans to other agencies of the city and county for the beautification of the city and county.

  Individuals living in the middle Georgia area who are vitally interested in the early history of the city. To investigate, promote and accomplish, as nearly as is practicable, the complete restoration of Fort Hawkins as it was originally constructed including the site, building and other facilities.

  To promote and protect the public health, safety, and the environment, and general welfare by providing for the regulation of the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees on city-owned property and public right-of-ways within the corporate limits of the city of Macon, and on city property outside the corporate limits.
