ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY I/II
Deadline: Until Filled

Under general supervision, prepares legal opinions, contracts, and other legal documents, drafts legislation, performs extensive legal research in many areas of the law, represents the City in various administrative and judicial proceedings, and addresses various legal matters which arise and affect the City on a daily basis.

Graduate from an accredited three (3) year law school with an LLB or a JD Degree POSSESS THE FOLLOWING NUMBER OF YEARS EXPERIENCE BASED ON LEVEL DESIRED: Assistant City Attorney I – Zero (0) up to three (3) years experience practicing municipal law or in a related field. Assistant City Attorney II – Four (4) years or more experience in practicing municipal law or in a related field and general understanding of laws relating to and affecting municipalities. Ability to act on behalf of the City Attorney in his/her absence. Assistant City Attorney III – Minimum of five (5) years or more experience in practicing municipal law or in a related field and sophisticated knowledge of laws relating to and affecting municipalities. Abilities to act on behalf of the City Attorney in his/her absence and to serve as assistant department head. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals and all Courts of the State of Georgia. Member State Bar of Georgia.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

Under general supervision, performs responsible work involving the overall management of the Public Works Department and of the Recycling Collection, Solid Waste Collection and Solid Waste Disposal Divisions. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing the assigned divisions with general guidance provided by the Director of Public Works. This position utilizes independence and initiative in accomplishing program objectives and is held responsible for the effectiveness of operations performed.

College degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field, and Three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity involving solid waste collection and disposal. Must possess a valid Georgia drivers license. Must complete training as a Certified Landfill Operator by the State of Georgia. Must pass a vision test for night driving. Must be available after normal work hours on an emergency need basis.

CHIEF ACCOUNTANT/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Under general supervision, performs highly responsible administrative and professional work providing and supervising various accounting services to the City. This position is responsible for the establishment, documentation, and operation of the City’s accounting system and ensures that the City’s books are closed each month in a timely and accurate manner. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Finance, who shall judge performance based upon reports, conferences, and observation of results achieved.

College graduation with degree in accounting, finance, public administration, or business administration. CPA required. Minimum of five (5) years of extensive administrative and professional experience in the service of a large organization, with three (3) years of progressively responsible governmental financial experience including supervisory experience

CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

Under general direction from the Mayor, performs highly complex and sensitive administrative work in the management of City Of Macon municipal services and activities. This position receives general and specific instructions and assignments from the Mayor, who will review performance through reports, conferences and observation of results achieved.

Master’s degree in Public or Business Administration or related field and six (6) years experience in public administration, or Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or a related field and eight (8) years experience in public administration.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Under general direction, performs highly technical and professional work in administration of the accounting, purchasing, budget, and fixed asset functions. Work includes the annual budget preparation, financial planning, financial reporting, custody and investment of City Funds, debt service, collection of delinquent accounts, financial research, special projects and financial advisor to both pension funds. Work is performed under general direction of the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer, and where applicable, City Council.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in public or business administration or accounting, and Minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years extensive administrative and professional experience in the service of a large organization, with four (4) years of progressively responsible governmental financial experience in a supervisory capacity.

DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

Under general direction, performs highly responsible managerial and technical level work in directing all activities of the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and directing Departmental divisions involved in street maintenance, construction and repair, solid waste collection and disposal and in grounds maintenance. Work includes responsibility for planning and implementing long and short-term strategies and determining departmental policies. Work is performed under general administrative direction and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results achieved.

Prefer college graduate with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related degree, and Eight (8) years of civil engineering experience which includes five (5) years management and supervisory experience Possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional EngNECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Landfill Operators Certification from the State of Georgia within six months of employment. ineer in the State of Georgia is desirable
